Regions Ranked for Business Climate

Conducted by the New Economic School, the survey used World Bank methodology to evaluate business environment.

Tourism Industry Has Room to Improve

MOSCOW, March 11, 2011 (Vedomosti)Russia came in 59th out of 139 countries worldwide in the World Economic Forum's latest tourism industry ranking. The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report put the country 33rd out of 42 countries in Europe, and forecast average annual growth at 6.7 percent.

Duma Rushes to Ease Rules for Foreigners

MOSCOW, March 11, 2011 (TMT) - Foreigners coming to Russia for short visits might soon no longer be required to register with authorities.

Legislation currently being debated in the State Duma says they only have to register when they stay longer than seven working days.

Pharmaceutical Firm Joins Kaluga Tax Base

Expats in Russia Face Registration Chaos

MOSCOW, February 10, 2011, (TMN) - Businesses have blasted changes to Russia’s migration rules that prevent firms registering foreign employees from February 15.

Expats will now have to register at their place of residence every time they enter Russia, but many landlords don’t provide formal rental agreements. “The employer is allowed to notify a relevant territorial office of the Federal Migration Service of a foreign citizen’s arrival at a place of actual residence on the basis of a residential property agreement concluded between the employer and the landlord, or between the employee and the landlord,’ part 4 of Federal Law 385 states.

Low Trust, High Interest Rates Hold Back Growth

MOSCOW, February 3, 2011 (TMT) - Russia’s elite are the least likely out of 22 nations to trust their country's business institutions. Only 41 percent of those surveyed expressed confidence in businesses, says the Edelman Trust Barometer, which produces an annual report on public trust around the world.

The same survey revealed that developing nations seem to trust Russia more than developed ones.
