NAIROBI, Kenya, August 25, 2014 (UNDP) -- The economic empowerment of women is no doubt the key for Africa’s sustained economic growth and development.In an increasingly globalized and interconnected world, the critical role of women as economic agents in the development process of any society cannot be overemphasized. This therefore means that equal treatment of women and men is not just the right thing to do but the best that can ever happen to move a society forward in terms of socio- economic transformation.

Tanzania: Women Entrepreneurs Appeal for Financial Support

ZANZIBAR, August 04, 2014 (TDN) — SALMA Othman Mohammed is a determined entrepreneur, running a small factory at Meli-Nne area, in the west district. She says many women are now interested in entrepreneurship but are let down by their husbands.

"Some men are not good; they either allow their wives to do business on condition that he takes possession of the proceeds. Others say women should not work. This is not fair," says Salma a mother of five children.

Africa: 'Africa Cannot Overcome Its Problems Unless Women Take the Lead'

BANJUL, Gambia, March 03, 2014 (The Point) -- The Charge d'Affaires Ambassador Michael Arietti, at the US Embassy in Banjul had said that Africa cannot overcome its problems unless women take the lead.

Arietti was speaking Thursday during the closing ceremony of the three-day Young Women's Empowerment Programme (YWEP) organised by the International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP), in partnership with Think Young Women (TYW), at TANGO office in Kanifing.
