Russia and Algeria Signed Partnership Agreements

MOSCOW, April 27, 2016 (Buziness Africa) — The prospects of Algerian-Russian cooperation in the sector of mining are favourable, said Wednesday in Moscow Minister of Industry and Mining Abdesselam Bouchouareb.

"We are finalizing two major projects of phosphate processing. They will be probably completed in the coming days in Algiers," the minister told APS on the sidelines of the visit of Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal to Russia, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev.

"We have reached advanced negotiations between the Russian institute and the Algerian public industrial group MANAL on a major project for the exploitation and processing of minerals discovered jointly," said the minister.

"The visit comes at a moment where our cooperation with Russia has witnessed an impressive development, especially in the field of mining," he added.

Bouchouareb also cited the project in partnership with a Russian group for the manufacturing of railway cars for the National Rail Transport Company (SNTF).

Five Algerian-Russian cooperation agreements in various areas have been signed Wednesday in Moscow, during the official visit of Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal to Russia.

The inked documents comprise a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of housing, an Algerian-Russian cultural cooperation programme for 2016-2018, a cooperation agreement between the news agencies Algerie Presse Service (APS) and Rossiya Segodnya, an MoU between the Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA) and Russia's Rosatom and an MoU between the National Agency for the Promotion and Development of Technology Parks (ANPT) and Russia's Skolkovo Foundation.

The MoU in the sector of housing and the cultural cooperation programme were inked by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.

The cooperation agreement between APS and Rossiya Segodnya was inked by APS Director General Abdelhamid Kacha and his Russian counterpart Oleg Ossipov.

The MoU between COMENA and Rosatom was signed by the head of COMENA Mohamed Derdour and his Russian counterpart, and the MoU between ANPT and Skolkovo Foundation was inked by ANPT Director General Abdelhakim Bensaoula and his Russian counterpart.

These agreements are part of the different actions meant to strengthen Algerian-Russian partnership in various areas.

The premier is on a two-day visit to Russia, accompanied by a ministerial delegation, comprising Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, Minister of Energy Salah Khebri, Minister of Industry and Mining Abdesselam Bouchouareb and Minister of Trade Bekhti Belaib.
