Angola: Trip of Angolan President to Russia Wanted to Boost Relations

LUANDA, Angola, April 15, 2016 (Angola Press) — A trip of the Angolan head of State José Eduardo dos Santos to the Russian Federation could further boost cooperation in the economic sector between the two countries.

This was said Friday in Luanda by the Russian minister of Natural Resources and Ecology, Serguei Donskoi.

The Russian official was speaking at the opening of the 4th Session of the Inter-governmental Commission for Angola-Russia Cooperation.

According to Serguei Donskoi, the intensification and trust in the political dialogue between the two countries would create the bases for the reinforcement of economic cooperation and investment.

He stated that his country is expecting with much interest the results of the ongoing 4th Session of the Inter-governmental Commission for Angola-Russia Cooperation, as it would enable advances in the resolution of practical matters of the cooperation between both countries.

Serguei Donskoi also expressed the interest of his country to have a much active participation of the Russian and Angolan institutions and business sectors in implementing the decisions and recommendations from the ongoing session.

He said he believes that the reinforcement of the legal basis for cooperation will boost the relations.

On the other hand, the Russian official spoke of the need for strengthening of some documents being negotiated, with a view to the preparation of the Angolan head of State's visit to Russia.

He mentioned the areas of education, cosmic space exploration for peaceful purposes, merchant navy, ministries of justice, as well as the memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation as some of the spheres of cooperation.

According to him, the meeting enabled the parties to discuss the main areas for cooperation between both countries, with stress to economic cooperation and others that could gain major momentum soon.
