Kazakhstan Steps up Its Courtship of Africa

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 10, 2015 (Astana Times) -- Kazakhstan has been laying groundwork aimed at taking its relationship with Africa to the next level. It obtained an important seat at the continent’s table by obtaining African Union observer status in 2013. That gives it access to the 54 African countries that gather for the union’s annual meetings and other events.

MOSCOW, June 10, 2015 (Buziness Africa) – In full-fledged preparation for the official launch of BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) as an extraordinary highlight event during the July Summit under his chairmanship, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ratified an agreement on the establishment of a $100 billion BRICS pool of currency reserves, according to a document published early May on Kremlin’s official website.

Africa creates TFTA - Cape to Cairo free-trade zone

TruckLONDON, June 10, 2015 (BBC) -- African leaders have agreed to create the continent's largest free-trade zone, covering 26 countries in an area from Cape Town to Cairo.

 

The deal, signed in Egypt, is intended to ease the movement of goods across member countries which represent more than half the continent's GDP.

Djibouti-Ethiopia Railway to Link the Region

Djibouti, June 10, 2015 (AFP) - The leaders of Djibouti and Ethiopia will oversee the completion of a railway linking their two capitals on Thursday, with the ambition that the link might eventually extend across the continent to West Africa.
